Garrick Showcase
EXCITING NEW INITIATIVE – CALLING ALL WRITERS

Whitefield Garrick has introduced a new regular event which we call the Garrick Showcase.  Our inaugural event in September, with the theme Suspicion, was a fantastic success and we are now planning the second for December.

This is an opportunity for local writers and actors to come together for an evening of
entertainment four times a year, presenting a collection of short pieces of new writing on a given theme.

The next Garrick Showcase will be on Wednesday 18th March 2026 please email [email protected] for details of the theme and submission deadlines.

Pieces should be submitted to [email protected].  All submissions should be between five and eight minutes in length and should be either monologues or dialogues with up to three characters.

You don’t have to be an established writer to contribute to the Garrick Showcase. Anyone can write a piece for us to consider including. However, we do insist that any submission must be the original work of the sender. No copyrighted material is acceptable.

What happens if your work is selected for performance?

1. We would prefer these to be dramatic performances, not readings. If you and any performers you bring with you are able to learn your script off by heart, that would be ideal.  You may take your script onstage with you, in case your memory lets you down. If you have difficulty finding actors for your piece, then you may email the Garrick Showcase and we will try to help, but there is a very active theatre circuit in this part of Greater Manchester and we cannot guarantee to find performers who will be available on that night.

2. They will be open box productions: there will be chairs on the stage and perhaps a table, but no other furniture. If you need props, you bring them yourself. (No firearms, please, replica or otherwise!)

3. Lighting will be a simple matter of Lights Up at the beginning and Lights Down at the end. For this first presentation in September, we cannot offer the facility to play music or sound effects.

All entries should be emailed to: [email protected]
